The project currently carried out by Marina Nou Fontana S.L. has the objective of reconditioning the Canal de la Fontana (Xàbia-Alicante) as a nautical and water sports center and remodeling the existing facilities so they can be compatible with the current inner nautical port, as you can have direct access to it through the Canal.
The Canal is around 800 m long, and will host a new quay line with 318 berths (number susceptible to be modified according to the changes that may be introduced in the project). The estuary is going to be remodeled too, with the aim of securing the entries and exits of boats. In the rear part of the Canal there will be a dry dock area which structure will minimize the damages caused by possible floods.
Marina Nou Fontana has projected to connect both banks easily by reducing the transit walk. They have also taken into account the distribution of the crossing areas under the bridges of the Mediterráneo Avenue (next to the Parador Nacional) and of the inner port’s existing estuary in order to design a fluent circulation throughout the whole center.
Special attention has been paid to the urbanization in the operation area. Let’s remember that the canal is located in a fully urbanized zone, surrounded by residential areas right next to the El Arenal promenade. The integration of the project in this urban environment is achieved by a careful selection of furniture and equipment, and the use of high quality materials that extol this currently deteriorated area.
The new Canal de la Fontana project will have two buildings that will host commercial units, offices and services for berth users.
The first building will be situated in the dry dock area of the new port and is an ideal place for nautical-related business to develop their activities in the core of the Canal.
The second building is designed to be built in the south quay, next to the bridge near the Parador Nacional of Jávea. It will host facilities and services for berth users, as well as a seamanship office.
